In the past month, two of Pakistan's most famous journalists have been attacked. Raza Rumi, a popular columnist and television personality, was ambushed in Lahore, and his driver was killed. Then, two weeks ago, Hamid Mir, arguably the country's most famous anchorman, was shot six times in Karachi. He is currently recovering from his injuries.

Republican Gov. Bill Haslam took the 10 days allotted to him to consider the advice of doctors, addiction experts and reproductive health groups urging him to veto the punitive and dangerous measure. Haslam ignored these recommendations — and the recommendations of nearly every major medical association, including the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy — and signed the measure anyway.
"At the time, sex wasn't a joyous or fun prospect to me. It was something that was causing me a lot of torment, and one of the daunting prospects of going out into the world and trying to find someone who wouldn't be alienated by that."
