Twitter released its first quarter earnings report for 2014 on Tuesday, and while the social-media company beat its own earnings and revenue estimates, it failed to meet Wall Street's expectations . Timeline views, Twitter's preferred metric for engagement, saw a 15% year-over-year growth in the first quarter, according to the report . However, the company reported a larger growth — 26% year-over-year — in the fourth quarter of 2013. Young Democrats More Active Than Republicans on Social Media, Study Says

Young Democrats are more active than Republicans on almost every major social-media platform, according to a new study published Tuesday by Harvard's Institute of Politics. Google+ presented the largest split — 52% of Democrats polled have an account on the platform, while Republicans only clocked in at 36% Twitter and Pinterest both showed an 8% difference between the political parties, but the latter is the only network on which Republicans have the edge over Democrats Facebook was most popular among both parties, with 87% of Democrats and Republicans using the social-media giant.
